Warahoon was a common description used when I was a wee boy in the ‘40s. The Warao was a group researched to be related to Arawakan tribe.Since they were indigenous to Northern Venezuela and “Guiana”/ Surinam. Possible travels and settlement in Trinidad was inevitable.
I remember as a child my great aunt used the term. When I asked her what she meant, she said "The Amerindians from Venezuela use to come on the Coffee to trade and when they see people they would hide."
I grew up in Cascade, Trinidad; my Dad used to refer to the boys I hung around with as 'Warahoons'!
My home was Sparia, Trinidad; my Mother was a Trini and my dad a Venezuelan 🇻🇪 My other told us about the Warahoons coming to Trinidad and bringing with them a holy woman who healed people and is she who became the Saint La Divina Pastora.
