One of the expression we kids heard our Montserrat-born grandmother use growing up, and in context we understood the general meaning and adopted it tongue-in-cheek into our own informal conversations with each other, but never knew the spelling or the linguistic derivation. Any idea where it comes from? Assuming your spelling is confirmed, any relation to the French 'pret' meaning "ready"?

It's probably derived from the french 'pret', but I can't confirm.
