The seeds are boiled on salt water. We call it shatine.
isn't jackfruit called cowa lets do some different mango names
Shatine and Cowa are not the same. Related but not the same. People usually let the cowa ripe to eat as fruit. Shatine is used green for curry shatine popular at prayers and weddings. but you can cook green cowa as a substitute for shatine in talkari.
I really miss this, you have to buy the whole jack fruit to get he seed here in california and its almost impossible to find jackfruit here in california
I only know it as Jackfruit. Folk lore in Jamaica says that if you travel with a whole Jackfruit, you will end up with a flat tire. So if you buy one it must be cut before you put it in the vehicle.
mi it call jackfruit and i like it
We call it Cowa when ripe when unripe we call it katahar. Katahar is peeled and cooked in curry both flesh and seeds. We use it especially for the 7 curry dish at hindu weddings :)
We call it shatine or breadnut
Jackfruit taste nice man, mi wan taste a likkle piece nw
Know locally as Cowa or katahar is in the same family as 'chataigne' (breadnut) and breadfruit but far different from either
It is called cowa in Guyana, @ Rhonda... Katahar is different it is smaller than cowa 😊
I'm from Guyana and never ate katahar or cowa really want to try it so I will be looking for it... never heard about jackfruit until I read it in a thread few mins ago
What is the Guyanese name (slang) for jackfruit??
My Italian wife just brought home a piece of Cowa. I clean it up and it taste sweet and nice.
My boys and her love the taste of it.
As do I
In Indonesia we called Nangka ^^
In Trinidad it's call Chataigne. It's a common dish for wedding and prays. If you don't have Chataigne in wedding n prays well it will cause problems. It is very nice n delicious. Tasty especially with bus up shot roti n curry it with a little pepper
Cowa is Jackfruit (when ripe smell funny but delicious, we dont normally cook it green in Trinidad but in most Asian countries they do, chataigne is breadnut (cooked curried) and breadfruit ( used in oildown etc.) are from the same family of fruits. Katarhar is also from the same family but they're all diffrent .
