In Jamaica the name Patoo is either in reference to the Great Patoo, a nocturnal insectivore bird that can be found in the Caribbean, Central and South America. Patoo also refers to the Barn owl, another distinct nocturnal bird species that can be found in various parts of the word that feeds on small mammals, other birds or insects. Either way Patoos are a bad omen and a symbol of death.
