It's Tonka Bean
since I came to the us 54 years ago and never seen it nor eaten, I always thought it was a mango baked in syrup to modify the taste, but I know better now.thanks for the information
This is one of my favorite fruits from Trinidad, however, it seems so rear in Trinidad or anywhere else. Can anyone tell me where I can purchase or get clippings? This is a fruit I would hate to see extinguished. Thanks
They have trees in abundance in Chatham Trinidad thats after Point Fortin heading towards Cedros
The northern range forest is filled with lots of trees.it is in season right now. I picked up alot of the fruit while hiking to rincon waterfall three days ago.
It's tanka bean
Had a tree in my back yard when i was younger in San Juan. it smells really good.
what nutritional food value does it contain
They use it a lot in perfumery as a base scent/ notes.
You can grate it and mix it with sweetbread ingredients.
Tango bean fruit itself is ok and delicious but the seeds called Tonka beans contains a chemical that is bad for your liver if you consume too much, we used to grate it to mix in with homemade chocolate, it’s been banned in the USA for a long time because the seeds contributed to liver damage.
tonka bean
Alcohol is bad for your liver. I don't see them banning alcohol. Maybe Tanko bean will hurt one of their prized industries like the dairy or sugar industry. This fruit taste and smells great. Leave ppls liver out of this. Kill joy Rey
Where the hell most of you guys come from? You can't be Caribbean people. I am shock of some of you. You were born New Yorkers
Yeah it smells nice but overbearing like a sweet slightly gasoline or plastic smell almost, if you eat one in a room everyone will smell it, the seed can also be cleaned and combed to become like a white fluffy ball..
It is delicious, we use to wash the fur and shape the seed to look like a human head making a afro for hair.
